''This video makes you think about how important family is and what you will loose if you keep smoking and die. ''

The video made by Tobacco Detoxification Centre of The Friends of the Bordet Institute, is addressed to all audiences as a campaign against smoking, but it is focused on the mind of a smoker person who really knows and needs to quit smoking cigarettes now or never. In fact, you can see how everyday activities are affected by smoking. Actually, people and animals around this guy do not feel good either and the smoker even knowing his life is in danger, he is still addicted to smoking. This is basically all the smokers´ attitude, they do not care about it, but they know it is a problem and soon or later it will bring serious consequences to their life. At the end of this commercial, we can see the words “Smoking is a handicap” this explains how serious this bad habit is and how people do not do anything to change it.

A short comment by one of my students

This commercial of the nonprofit organization “Partner Ship for a Drug-free America” was published in 1990. The video was intended to the general TV audience in America. The author used the rhetorical technique of Pathos; means persuading by appealing to the audience´s emotions. He used the image of a father who lost his teenage son because the use of drugs. He is presented crying in a cemetery next to his son´s tomb, and having remorses because he did not speak on time about the use of drugs with his son. I think the author wanted to call the attention to all parents in order to persuade them to talk about this problem with their children; he was looking for a shocking reaction with this video; clarifying that it is never too early to speak about drugs with our children.

A short comment by one of my students

''In Australia, like in many countries around the world, there is a fight against smoking. This is one of the most important and significant reason of lung cancer. Autnorised by the Australian Government Camborra, spoken by J. Hogan and A. Steel, this video is a national Quit now anti-smoking television and campaign in Australia, how the author express on the net. Obviously, this video tries to persuade people to give up smoking and it makes emphasis on the effects of smoking. The video is presenting a part of the aorta and shows us how cigarrettes work in one of the most necessary arteries in our heart. In obedience to the three motivational appeals (Aristotle) the use of logic arguments and strong information is called LOGOS. In other words, the author used the logic to present his point and to persuade his audience.''

Video 6

A short comment by one of my students

As the video shows, some parents do not realize the huge damage they do to their children when they smoke. As passive smokers, children could not do anything to avoid being part of that horrible addiction because though they do not consume cigarettes, they assimilate the smoke the cigarettes produced. Also, it is probable that when children grow up, they will imitate the same awful habit their parents have. The right thing in these cases should be that parents avoid smoking in front of their children, but in general, the correct thing is that people should never begin to smoke.
